The Crafty Side of Mommy

Ok...soooo, I have become quite addicted to a new website called Pinterest. I know, I know, I'm way behind on this. I am sure you have all heard of it years ago, but most of the time I'm somewhere in my own little bubble of mommyland so you have to excuse my "behindness". However, I LOVE IT! It has helped me become a much craftier person than I would have been before AND it has helped my decorating skills as well. (OK, so I might be exaggerating a little since I have only made one of the things so far..but I'm super busy and super broke, so give me a break!) Here is a picture of the one thing I have made......but I PROMISE I plan to make more!!! I even have a board called "DO NOW".

Ignore the fact that my front door is SO dirty, please!

On another crafty note, I have really started doing a LOT of sewing and monogramming. I got my machine a while ago and was so intimidated by it. I finally decided to learn. I started posting a few things on Facebook and the orders started pouring in! I love that, by the way so if you are reading this, keep them coming!! I'm going to post a few pictures of my stuff on here so maybe it will be another way of advertising!

Another crafty side to me is the cakes that I make with a friend of mine, Miranda Smith. We started this about a year ago. I have wanted to make cakes all my life and just one day decided to try. It ended up being something I loved and something that was quite therapeutic to me! We have a FB page called Creative Cakes http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=hp#!/pages/Creative-Cakes/174233769290160 so check it out! (By the way, I'm not too good at this blog thing yet, so my links and pictures may be will be a little "ghetto-fied" when I add them.) We sell these cakes and price them according to the size, toppings, and decor.

The first wedding cake I ever made...Miranda had already helped with a few, but this was my first.

So there you have it. That's the crafty side of this mom! Not professional, by any means but I enjoy thake nothing and making something out of it. I like to see progress! Feel free to contact me if you decide you need something sewed, monogrammed, appliqued, or baked and decorated! :)

Let's Play Catch-up

*I first want to throw out a disclaimer that I am by no means claiming to be a great writer. I am not even claiming to be an interesting writer. I mainly started this blog as an electronic way to remember things about our life when I am old and grey!

Since I decided to start this blog almost 5 years after my first child, I am going to do a little catching up. Let's take a look back at the past few years.

On July 19, 2003 (forever ago, it seems), I married my best friend, Brint Rice. We lived in Montgomery, AL for the first 2 years of our life together. We both attended Faulkner University and he worked as the Youth minister at Liberty Church of Christ. We then moved to Alexander City, AL where he became the Minister for Southview Church of Christ. In September of 2006, I gave birth to our precious first born. A little girl, named Lily Joyce Rice. (Joyce being my sweet Nana's name.) She was born on Sep. 11at 12:40 am,  weighing 7lbs and 14 oz.

Here is me about to pop with Lily

Here is me in labor with Lily. I somwhere got the idea that I could play cards in between contractions! Boy was I EVER wrong!!!

Here is precious Lily just a few weeks old!

Then in July of 2008, we got our second little blessing. Barrett Brinton Rice. (Brinton being Paw Paw Rice's name and his daddy's name.) He was born at 12:10 pm on July 16th, weighing 7lbs and 2 oz. He was my smallest one! The first thing I said when he was born was, he looks just like Lily. And he did, only smaller.

Barrrett is only a few days old in this picture. Sleeping soundly!

Our first time to church as a family of four. Big sister was not to happy about getting her picture made. Pretty sure daddy had a death grip on her!

Now..,..prepare yourself. Because here comes the biggest surprise I had ever had in my life! Right about the time Barrett was 3 months old, I noticed being really tired, ill, hungry, etc. But what new, nursing mom isn't...right? Well, you guessed it....I was pregnant! Let me answer all the normal questions for you. Yes, I know what causes that. No, we were not trying (in fact...TMI...but we were trying in all possible ways NOT to). And my favorite question....."What are you gonna do????". Well, folks...I'm gonna have a baby. Here's your sign! Anyway, after being in pure denial for about 9 weeks I finally accepted the fact. It was a little harder for me to accept the fact that it was gonna be another boy, but now I wouldn't give anything for my precious little boy.

Kason Skyler Rice was born June 27th, 2009 at 10:11pm. He weighed in (being my biggest) at 8 lbs and 5 oz. And if you can count, you will realize that only makes a total of 11 months since Barrett had been born. Now, talk about a crazy life. Put yourself 2 years later with a VERY emotional/stubborn/spunky/strong-willed four year old, a VERY rowdy/rough/sweet, but ALL boy almost three year old, and a "laid back except when I need someone to hear me over my siblings then I scream at the top of my VERY strong lungs" toddler. That's where we are. Welcome to our crazy life and enjoy!

An adorable sleeping picture that I couldn't resist sharing.
